Smears from the nose or throat are used for PCR tests for the presence of the Sars-Cov-2 virus, the causative agent of Covid-19.
How many days does the PCR test result take?
Classically, PCR test results for Covid 19 disease usually lead after 2 to 4 hours. If the result of the PCR test is positive, the test may need to be repeated three more times before a definitive diagnosis can be made. The results of the Covid-19 tests used by the Ministry of Health are also processed into patient information within 1 to 3 days via the new Turkish E-Nabiz system, depending on the intensity.
How is the PCR test performed?
In PCR tests, a sample is taken from the nose and throat using a thin cotton swab. Sputum that comes out after coughing can also serve as an example. If used for Covid-19, it would be more appropriate to take a sample from the throat or nose for this test in the first few hours of the illness. In the future, however, it will also be possible to take samples from airlines.
If the disease progresses, there may be no more virus sample in the throat or nose. The sample to be taken correctly and at the right time by the nursing staff must be placed in a special container and transferred to the test cartridge in the sample laboratory. Immediately after this step, the sample is automatically filtered.
The PCR test consists of 3 stages. These phases must be repeated in a specific cycle. There are two types of uses in PCR testing. These; Real-time PCR and PCR with fast results. In real time, the duration is between 1 and 3 hours; With a quick result, this time is between 15 minutes and 1.5 hours.
