Harvard University explains: Consuming olive oil can prevent disease.

A new study has been published on olive oil, which has been considered one of the most beneficial products for our health in the United States for years.

According to Harvard research, replacing margarine, butter, or other saturated fats with olive oil can prevent death from cancer, heart and respiratory diseases, and dementia.

Men and women replaced 2 teaspoons of olive oil (10 grams) in place of margarine, butter, and mayonnaise, said the study's lead author Marta Guasch-Ferre, a senior scientist at Harvard T.H. Chan Public School. Health: Olive oil intake compared to those who consume olive oil stressed that the overall risk of death was reduced by 4 percent.

Stressing that previous studies have taken place in Europe and particularly in Mediterranean countries where olive oil consumption is higher, Guasch-Ferre said: "This is the first long-term study of olive oil and mortality in the US population of more than 90,000 Participants participated."

Chief Medical Editor at Harvard Health Publishing, part of Harvard Medical School, "This is a combination of reducing the saturated fat and increasing the monounsaturated fat in olive oil," says Ph. D. Howard Lewin.

"Our results continue to support recommendations to replace saturated and animal fats with unsaturated vegetable oils such as olive oil to prevent premature death," said Lewin.

While the study analysed the diets of people who participated in two large government-funded studies, the researchers then compared the nutritional outcomes to their morbidity and valour scores over time.

Susanna Larsson, Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, said in a statement on the study: “People who report the highest consumption of olive oil have a 19 percent higher risk of dying from heart disease, a 17 percent higher one Risk of death from cancer. A higher risk of dying from neurodegenerative diseases and a greater risk of death from respiratory diseases compared to those who never or rarely consumed olive oil instead of saturated fat.

The research on olive oil was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiologist.
