What is an implant and how is it used?
The implant consists of artificial tooth roots that are inserted into the human jawbone and are used to support prostheses. Mostly these are titanium alloy screws that are made in place of missing teeth and can be used for a lifetime without any problems. Implants are placed in the jawbone with a small surgical procedure in a sterile environment by dentists. After this process, the implant is completely attached to the jawbone in around 2 to 3 months.
The implant takes on the role of a real tooth root and takes full control of the prosthesis to be placed on it. For the
implant application to be used in a healthy way, one of the main requirements is a supportive bone structure and healthy gums. If one of these is missing, the success rate drops significantly, even though implants are manufactured with additional bone surgery applications.
How is the implant inserted, what are the goals of its treatment?
One of the most important advantages of implant application is an implant prosthesis. Patients have almost the same adjustments to replace the teeth they have lost over time and have teeth with the same characteristics. When used correctly to replace lost teeth, better results can sometimes be achieved than with your own teeth.
It is possible to use implants for many years. The only condition for this, however, is that the implant application takes place under suitable conditions. After application, patients can easily use them by taking care of them like their own teeth. As the bone in which the extracted teeth are located loses its function over time, it melts. Thanks to the implant that is made after extraction, bone resorption will decrease and stop over time.
What types of implants are there?
Endosteal implants: They are surgically inserted into the jawbone. Once the gum tissue has healed, a second operation is performed and the gingiva is shaped. In the last step, artificial teeth, bridges or prostheses are attached to the implant in groups. It is one of the most widely used types of implants.
Subperiosteal implants: These are meral scaffolds that are inserted into the jawbone under the gum tissue. After the gingiva has healed, the metal framework is attached to the jawbone. The materials of the metal frame protrude from the outer flesh and the implants are mounted there. The most commonly used are the helical ones.
In which cases is an implant used?
People with missing teeth can also have aesthetic problems as they lose their functions in many ways. Since they cannot chew effectively, they cannot be nourished healthily. As tooth loss will increase over time, some problems will arise in the mandibular joints.
Implant treatment is an effective form of treatment that can be used for people whose teeth have been lost due to periodontal reasons, disease, trauma and tooth decay. The implant, which can be easily inserted in any healthy person, can also be used in young patients with developed bone structure. In patients with bone loss, implantation can be done using advanced techniques in the light of new technologies and developments.
Who cannot use an implant?
Implant treatment is usually used in healthy people. In this case, people who have received radiation therapy in the head and neck area will definitely not be able to use an implant. Young people who have not yet completed their bone development and people who smoke a lot are never suitable for implants as smoking negatively affects wound healing.
In addition, individuals with diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and hemophilia can be contacted with their doctors, and if suitable conditions can be created, an implant application can be performed.
