Kadir Uğur, one of the leading names in Turkey's tourism industry, has spoken out about the problems facing the sector. Uğur stated that the reason European tourists are not choosing Turkey for their holidays is due to the high hotel prices. He emphasized that the end of early booking discounts has resulted in the stagnation of the tourism industry and likened the situation to the proverb "the truth-teller gets ostracized from nine villages."
Uğur noted that the price increases in Turkey, which far exceed inflation rates in European countries, are making it difficult for tourists to afford. He added that even last-minute discounts are not effective in attracting tourists and that Turkey has once again become a "last-minute country."
To solve the current difficulties in the tourism sector, Uğur stressed the importance of reducing costs rather than increasing prices. He also emphasized that consumers should behave the same way in Turkey as they do in Europe when prices are increased, and that we need to find a solution as a society to break this cycle.
Furthermore, Uğur warned that some industry colleagues are trying to control the flow of money by selling their products below cost, which would ultimately harm both themselves and the sector. He expressed his best wishes to those in the tourism industry, acknowledging that it is currently facing challenging times.
It is essential to heed Kadir Uğur's warnings that to solve the problems in the tourism sector, costs must be reduced and affordable prices offered to tourists. However, during this process, sector representatives must unite and take the correct steps.
